Guide to Root SONY Xperia Z Android Phone

Root SONY Xperia Z in the simplest possible manner and in the due course of this article we will be checking out the same. Quick Pre Requisites:

• You are requested to create a backup of all the data in your SONY Xperia Z. Don’t make use of SONY PC Companion to create the backup of your data as sometimes it doesn’t help you to restore the data.

SMS – Use “ SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts –  Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

• Enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” and also you will have to ensure that the minimum battery life should be 30% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of rooting process. Disable / uninstall all the security suites installed in your phone as it may interrupt the process of rooting process.

Procedure to Root SONY Xperia Z:

• Download the Sony Flash tool from here to your computer and extract the same. Once extracted, install the same and Open the same. Connect your SONY Xperia Z smartphone to the computer with the help of original USb cable.

• For all those who are on Windows 8 based computers / Laptops, you need to make some small changes. Open the command prompt window in your computer and enter the below mentioned command to press Enter;

shutdown -o  -r  -t 0

• Once the above command is mentioned, you need to select “Disable Driver Signing” option and then choose the “Have disk” option and install the Flash tool driver manually. Now, reboot the system.  Up next you need to disconnect the phone from computer and enable the USB Debugging from the Settings of your device by disconnecting the device from computer.

• Download Rooting Package for SONY Xperia Z from here to your computer. Once downloaded, extract the same preferably to the desktop.

• Close all the apps in your computer like PC Companion and Browsers etc. so as to avoid any app closures abruptly.

• Connect your Xperia Z to the computer with the help of original USB cable and from the extracted folder, open the “RunMe.bat” file and once all the series of things are processed, you will get to see the message as “Restore Data”.

• Once you see the message as “Restoring data is completed”, you need to head over to your phone’s dialer app to dial the number as *–7378423–* on the keypad after which Service Menu of the device will be shown.

• In Service Menu, you need to select “Service tests” from the available options.

• Select “Display” and then toolkit will execute some operations. Press the Power button to turn off the screen. Wait for a few seconds and press the Power button again until a beep sound comes. Keep observing the command prompt for outputs.

• Now, you will get to see the message as “Transfer files to your part2”, installing busy box etc.” after which finally you will get to see the message as “Cleaning up” and then the device will be rebooting to the normal mode.

• Please note that to show up the home screen, it will take quite a while. Now, once the device is booted you will see that the phone must have rooted. To check on whether the device is rooted or not, you need to download the “Root Checker” app from the PLAY Store.

Note: Just in a rare case if the device is not updated and it gets into the boot loop mode, you need to again clear the cache from the recovery mode and retry the whole process from the start.
